What Europe Hangs on Its Walls: The 2026 Poster Search Demand Ranking

What Europe Hangs on Its Walls: The 2026 Poster Search Demand Ranking

Streaming charts tell you what people play. Search demand for posters tells you what they want to live with. Those two lists are not the same.

In September 2026, Posters Base measured poster-intent search demand across France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain (with the United States as a reference market). The result is a country-by-country ranking of what people actually look for when they want wall art: franchises, music, cars, sport, anime, games, and more.

Journalists, editors and anyone writing about European interiors can cite the tables below. The method is open. The numbers are monthly search volumes for poster and wall-art intents, not sales and not streaming ranks.

Key findings at a glance

  1. TV franchises beat music on the wall. Stranger Things is the number one franchise poster query in every European market we measured (UK ~8,100 / month, DE ~3,600, FR ~2,900, ES ~2,080).
  2. Music still matters, but it is not the whole story. Michael Jackson leads music poster demand in FR, UK and DE. Taylor Swift leads in ES. Local scenes rarely match international icons as wall searches.
  3. Germany loves cars on the wall. Porsche poster demand in DE (~1,900 / month) rivals top music acts and sits close to several film franchises.
  4. France still speaks "affiche". Category searches like affiche film (~14,800) and affiche cinéma (~9,900) dwarf many English "movie poster" style queries in smaller markets.
  5. Streaming heat is not wall heat. Local chart artists often show tiny poster demand. Fans stream them; they decorate with images that feel permanent.

Ranking 1: Category demand by country

Takeaway: the UK and France still frame "film" as a mass décor category. Germany mixes living-room and bedroom intent with cars and anime. Spain's absolute volumes are smaller, with anime, football and cars sharing the top tier.

Ranking 2: Franchises that win the wall

Top TV / film / anime subjects (poster intent)

Market#1Vol.#2Vol.#3Vol.
UKStranger Things8,100Star Wars4,400Spider-Man2,900
DEStranger Things3,600Star Wars2,400One Piece1,600
FRStar Wars3,700Stranger Things2,900Pulp Fiction / Harry Potter1,920
ESStranger Things2,080Star Wars1,140One Piece640

Stranger Things is the clearest pan-European décor signal in this dataset. It outranks most music artists as a single poster query in every EU market listed. That is the "pop culture replaced the classic film poster" story in one line.

Ranking 3: Music poster demand (international)

Market#1 MusicVol.#2Vol.#3Vol.
UKMichael Jackson2,900Taylor Swift2,400Arctic Monkeys / Billie Eilish / Radiohead1,900
DEMichael Jackson1,600Taylor Swift / Billie Eilish1,000Eminem / Metallica720
FRMichael Jackson980Taylor Swift590Daft Punk580
ESTaylor Swift330Michael Jackson310Ariana Grande260

UK music wall taste is broader and more British-indie friendly (Arctic Monkeys near the top). France still shows a Daft Punk bump that fits a local electronic story. Spain's music poster volumes are lower overall, with Taylor Swift narrowly ahead of MJ.

Ranking 4: Local scenes on the wall (honest numbers)

Local chart heat does not automatically become wall demand.

MarketTop local music poster subjectsApprox. monthly searches
DENina Chuba, Ayliva, Ikkimel, Pashanim390 to 590
UKLoyle Carner, PinkPantheress, Central Cee, Skepta170 to 260
FRPNL, Gims, Werenoi, Orelsan90 to 160
ESAitana, Bad Gyal, RosalĂa, Quevedo60 to 130

These are real niches, not mass décor categories. Editors covering "what Gen Z hangs at home" should treat local rap and pop as secondary wall stories unless a specific artist spikes.

Ranking 5: Cars, sport, streetwear, games

Signature non-music spikes

MarketSignalApprox. monthly searchesWhy it matters

Streaming vs wall art: the divergence editors cite

Playlists rotate weekly. Walls do not. In every market we checked, long-running franchises and legacy visual brands outpace many current streaming stars as poster queries.

That does not mean new artists never become wall art. It means permanence, recognisability and graphic strength still win the search box when someone types "poster". A cover or a still has to work from across a room. Algorithmic heat alone is not enough.

This is the same pattern we flagged in the Album Cover Art Guide's music-only tables: poster demand and streaming charts diverge. The European multi-vertical view makes the gap even clearer, because TV and film franchises sit above most music acts.

What this means for European homes (and for editors)

  • Lead with franchises if you are writing a national dĂ©cor trend piece: Stranger Things, Star Wars and One Piece are safe, data-backed hooks.
  • Localise the second paragraph. Germany: cars. France: "affiche" language and luxury brands. UK: music breadth plus streetwear. Spain: football and anime sharing the top shelf.
  • Do not invent a "rap French dĂ©cor boom" from streaming charts. The FR local music poster numbers stay modest in this snapshot.
  • Credit the method. Search demand is not sales. It is still one of the cleanest public proxies for what people want on their walls.

Soft next step

If you are building a wall rather than a headline, start with one franchise or one album you will still like in five years, then add size and frame. Posters Base carries movie, music, anime, cars and customised album options when you want the print to match the room.

FAQ

Is this a sales ranking?

No. These are approximate monthly Google search volumes for poster and wall-art intents via DataForSEO (snapshot 2026-09-09).

Why is Stranger Things so high?

Because a single, highly recognisable franchise image travels well as décor search. In UK, DE, FR and ES it leads or sits at the top of TV/film poster intent in this dataset.

Does music still matter for wall art?

Yes. Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift lead music poster demand in most markets here. Music is simply not the only (or always the biggest) décor vertical.

Will you update the ranking?

Yes. The plan is a quarterly refresh so journalists can re-cite a dated, transparent dataset.

About the data

Figures come from Posters Base analysis of DataForSEO Google Ads search volume (2026-09-09) for poster-oriented queries in FR, UK, DE and ES. US figures appear only as reference where noted. Volumes are approximate. They are not streaming ranks and not revenue.
