Salmo is the stage name of Maurizio Pisciottu, an Italian rapper, singer, and producer from Sardinia, born on 29 June 1984. He emerged from underground rap and metal/hardcore scenes, recording with groups including Skasico and To Ed Gein before launching a solo career that would redefine Italian hip-hop. His solo breakthrough came with The Island Chainsaw Massacre in 2011, quickly making him a major figure in the Italian rap scene with his raw, uncompromising sound.
From the gritty Death USB in 2012 to the signature Hellvisback in 2016, Salmo built a catalog that spans underground intensity and mainstream appeal. His 2018 release Playlist marked a broader commercial phase, while 2021's Flop and 2022's Salmo Unplugged showcased his artistic range. In 2023, he teamed with Noyz Narcos for the collaborative album CVLT, and in 2024 appeared on Banda Kawasaki with Achille Lauro and Gemitaiz. The 2026 reissue Hellvisback 10 Years Later alongside his latest album Ranch proves his enduring influence across Italian rap's evolution.
