The story behind Interstellar
Interstellar follows a former pilot turned farmer who leaves his family behind to lead a mission through a wormhole in search of a new home for humanity. Directed by Christopher Nolan and written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, the film pairs hard science concepts with a deeply human story about a father, his daughter and the years lost to time dilation. Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine anchor a cast that grounds the cosmic stakes in raw emotion.
Released in the United States on 7 November 2014 after a premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre on 26 October 2014, Interstellar runs 169 minutes and never loses sight of its emotional core. Nolan reportedly asked composer Hans Zimmer to write music based on a short story about a father rather than a traditional science fiction brief. That choice shaped a film where survival, sacrifice and love matter as much as wormholes, and where every image carries feeling as well as spectacle.
