Lady Gaga turned the album cover into a piece of pop art, and this collection gathers the record sleeves that carried her from a Lower East Side dance floor to the Great American Songbook. The store focuses on The Fame onward, so the run here spans her 2008 debut, the maximalist ARTPOP, two jazz albums recorded with Tony Bennett, the roots-leaning Joanne, and the house revival of Chromatica. Born This Way and The Fame Monster are not part of this collection, and the recent Harlequin companion to Joker sits outside it too. The Fame (2008)
The Fame is where Stefani Germanotta became Lady Gaga. Released on 19 August 2008, the debut turned Just Dance and Poker Face into inescapable synth-pop and sold more than eight million copies by the end of 2009. The sleek electro glamour of the cover is the origin point of everything that follows on this wall, and it remains one of her most recognizable images.
ARTPOP (2013)
ARTPOP is the boldest sleeve she ever commissioned. Released on 6 November 2013, the third record handed its cover to artist Jeff Koons, who posed her as a porcelain nude with his blue gazing ball and shards of Botticelli's Birth of Venus behind. Few pop covers double so openly as gallery objects.
Cheek to Cheek (2014)
With Cheek to Cheek, Gaga rebelled against her own pop persona. The 19 September 2014 duet album with jazz legend Tony Bennett runs through the Great American Songbook, from Anything Goes to the title track, and won the 2015 Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. On a wall its warm portrait is a study in restraint after the neon of ARTPOP.
Joanne (2016)
Joanne, released on 21 October 2016, strips the production back to roots rock and country. Named for the aunt Gaga never met, who died at nineteen, the cover is a profile shot under a soft pink wide-brimmed hat that became the defining image of the era. Million Reasons and Perfect Illusion carried it.
Chromatica (2020)
Chromatica is the return to the dance floor. Released on 29 May 2020, its metallic science fiction world gave us Rain On Me with Ariana Grande, the first all-female collaboration to debut at number one in the United States, plus the disco pounder Stupid Love. The sharp-edged cover reads brilliantly at large sizes.
Love for Sale (2021)
Love for Sale closes the collection and the Bennett partnership. Released on 30 September 2021, this Cole Porter tribute was Bennett's final studio album, recorded while he lived with Alzheimer's, and it earned the duo a second Grammy. The elegant cover hangs naturally beside Cheek to Cheek.
