Peaky Blinders is a British period crime drama created by Steven Knight for the BBC, first debuting on BBC Two on 12 September 2013 and running through six seasons to 2022. Set mainly in Birmingham in the aftermath of World War I, the series follows the Shelby crime family, led by Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy. The story spans the 1919 to 1930s period, capturing the postwar industrial world of Birmingham and the rise of the notorious Peaky Blinders gang.
The show nearly happened in the 1990s before Knight later secured a BBC commission. After the original series concluded in 2022, the franchise continued with a feature film. In June 2024, Netflix confirmed the film with Cillian Murphy returning as Tommy Shelby, and production began in September 2024 under the title The Immortal Man. The film premiered in Birmingham on 2 March 2026, opened in select cinemas on 6 March 2026, and arrived on Netflix on 20 March 2026. Netflix also announced a sequel series in 2026 with two new six-episode seasons, ensuring the Shelby legacy continues.
