Travis Scott's Astroworld stands as the rapper's third studio album and the defining project of his late-2010s peak era. Released on August 3, 2018, through Cactus Jack Records, Grand Hustle Records, and Epic Records, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and later returned to the top spot again in late 2018. Named after the defunct Astroworld amusement park in Houston, the project ties deeply to Scott's hometown identity and became a cultural landmark in American hip-hop. The album was certified 4Ă platinum by the RIAA on September 9, 2021, with every track on the album achieving platinum certification or higher.
The Astroworld era is remembered not only for the music but for its theatrical rollout. Announced publicly on July 30-31, 2018, the campaign featured large golden inflatable-head visual stunts in multiple cities, creating an unusually cinematic launch even by rap-album standards. The signature inflatable-head artwork became inseparable from the album's identity, appearing across teasers, trailers, and promotional materials throughout July and August 2018. Guest appearances from major hip-hop and pop artists helped define the album's mainstream reach, cementing Astroworld as a pivotal moment in contemporary rap.
