Jonatan Leandoer Håstad, known as Yung Lean, emerged from Stockholm in the early 2010s and helped define a melancholic, internet-born strain of rap that resonated with a generation raised online. After releasing his debut mixtape Unknown Death 2002, he delivered his first full-length studio album, Unknown Memory, on 23 September 2014. His solo catalog expanded through Warlord in 2016, Stranger in 2017, and Starz in 2020, each project deepening his exploration of hazy production and introspective lyricism. Associated with the Sad Boys collective, his work sits at the intersection of cloud rap and emo-rap, carving out a unique sonic identity that blends vulnerability with experimental production.
In recent years, Yung Lean has remained prolific. He released Psykos with Bladee on 13 March 2024, and announced his next solo album, Jonatan, in January 2025. The album arrived on 2 May 2025, marking his first solo release as Yung Lean since Starz and drawing attention for using his given name rather than his stage alias. He also released major work under the name Jonatan Leandoer96, including Sugar World in 2023.
