The Alien franchise has been scaring audiences since Ridley Scott's 1979 original, and its posters have always understood that less is more: a single shape in the dark, a tagline, a lot of black. Built around Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley and the biomechanical creature designed by H. R. Giger, the series has passed through several directors and tones, and this collection gathers the key art across those entries. Each design is produced to order on 200 gsm matte paper, in sizes from A4 to A1, framed or unframed.

Cameron's Aliens and Ripley

James Cameron's Aliens (1986) turned Scott's horror into an action war film, and its imagery — Ripley armed, the colony overrun — is some of the most reproduced in the series. The hub carries the Aliens key art alongside a Ripley-focused design that puts the franchise's central character front and centre. These are the prints for the fan who rates the second film highest, and at large sizes the contrast of figure against dark reads cleanly across a room.

The darker chapters: Alien3 and Resurrection

The middle of the series went strange and bleak. Alien3 (1992) strips the story back to a prison planet and a single creature, and Alien Resurrection (1997) pushes into something sicklier and more surreal. Their posters are among the moodiest in the collection — heavy shadow, cold colour — and they work as a pair for collectors who love the franchise at its least comfortable. Hung together they make a deliberately uneasy wall.

Modern Alien: Covenant, Romulus and the crossover

The recent films bring the franchise back to the foreground. Alien: Covenant (2017) continues Scott's prequel thread with a sleeker, painterly key art, and Alien: Romulus (2024) returns to tight, practical horror with imagery to match. The hub also carries the crossover Aliens vs Predator: Requiem (2007) for completists who count it part of the universe. Together the modern entries show a franchise still finding new images for the same primal fear.

Darkness as a design

The Alien franchise taught poster design a lesson that still holds: a frightening image needs room to breathe. From the start the one-sheets leaned on black and negative space, letting a single shape — an egg, a curled tail, a silhouette in a doorway — do the work, and that restraint is exactly what makes the artwork reward a large print. H. R. Giger's biomechanical creature, all ribs and chrome and shadow, is built from the kind of fine, dark detail that collapses on a small or glossy reproduction but opens up at A2 or A1 on matte stock, where the blacks stay black instead of greying out or throwing glare. It is also why the entries hang together so well despite decades and directors between them: whatever the tone, the franchise keeps returning to darkness as its medium. Group two or three films on one wall and the room takes on the series' signature dread — quiet, cold, and waiting. It is a rare franchise whose posters work as well in a hallway at midnight as on a shelf in daylight, precisely because the artwork was never afraid of the dark.

Sizes, paper and framing

Every Alien poster is printed on demand, so the deep blacks stay deep and nothing fades on a shelf. Choose A4 for a cluster, A3 and A2 for the main wall, or A1 when a single creature should carry the room. Frames come in black or white; unframed prints ship flat. For more of the same shelf, see our movie posters hub, or cross to Pulp Fiction posters, Batman posters and The Godfather posters.
