The original trilogy: where the saga began
George Lucas had been shaping his space adventure since 1971, and by 1975 the script had finally settled and he had founded Industrial Light & Magic to build effects the industry had never seen. The result, A New Hope, reached US cinemas on 25 May 1977 and went on to earn around 775 million dollars worldwide, winning six Academy Awards including John Williams' Best Original Score.
