Surf Vintage poster

Start Your Stussy Wall

From the 1980 surf-shop signature of Surf Vintage to the collab era of Streetwear Collab, this collection covers the motifs that turned one Californian scrawl into the blueprint for streetwear. Every poster is printed on museum-grade 200gsm matte stock, available from A4 to A1, and offered framed in black or chrome white or unframed for your own setup.

Not sure where to begin? The safest first buy is a trio: a surf-origin piece like Waves, the brand's billiard icon in 8 Ball, and a collab nod such as Streetwear Collection. Thanks to Buy 2 Get 1 Free, that third poster is on the house, which makes a full Stussy wall the best value in the shop. Pick your favourites, choose your size and frame, and let your wall show exactly which era of streetwear you claim as your own.

Greit å vite om Stussy Plakater

  • Shawn Stussy, born in 1954, founded the brand in 1980 in Laguna Beach, California, shaping surfboards by day and screen-printing T-shirts to sell at night.
  • The famous Stussy logo is a hand-drawn scrawl of Shawn's surname, inspired by the signature of his uncle, the artist Jan Stussy, and drawn with a broad-tipped marker.
  • What began as a surfwear label became the official Stussy clothing brand around 1984, then spread into skate and hip-hop culture through the mid-1980s.
  • By 1988 Stussy had expanded to Europe and opened a store in SoHo, New York, and the label reportedly reached around 17 million dollars in sales by 1991.
  • The International Stussy Tribe formalised around 1987, when Shawn Stussy shipped free product to a global network of DJs, artists, musicians and photographers he admired.
  • The London chapter of the Tribe united Michael Kopelman of Gimme 5 with figures like Mick Jones of The Clash and drum-and-bass pioneer Goldie, an early streetwear influencer network.
  • Tokyo tastemaker Hiroshi Fujiwara was part of the Tribe, tying Stussy directly into the Ura-Harajuku scene that shaped Japanese street style.
  • The 8-Ball graphic arrived in the 1990s as a bold centred print, borrowing the pool-hall symbol of luck and risk to signal streetwise, anti-establishment attitude.
  • Stussy and Mattel reissued the billiard logo as a collectible Magic 8 Ball toy in 2021, a nod to how central the motif is to the brand's identity.
  • The Nike x Stussy partnership began in 2000, when Michael Kopelman and Nike's Fraser Cooke released limited Air Huarache colourways sold only at the Stussy London store.
  • The 2001 Stussy x Nike Dunk High set the template for the modern sneaker collaboration, and the pair returned two decades later with the sought-after 2020 Air Force 1 and Air Zoom Spiridon drops.
